IMPROVING BATTERY SAFETY
Whilst lithium-ion batteries are currently dominating the battery market, questions have recently been raised regarding their safety.
We are currently investigating how safer materials can be incorporated into lithium systems without any reduction in battery performance. In particular, we focus on the solid electrolyte interface and the incorporation of ionic liquids.
These liquid salts are thermally and electrochemically stable with a negligible vapour pressure and are very promising as potential electrolytes for the next generation of lithium batteries.
