HARVESTING ELECTRICITY FROM HEAT
With a growing emphasis on renewable and sustainable forms of energy, thermocells are a highly topical area of research.
Thermocells allow waste heat produced through both natural and industrial processes, be harvested and converted into electricity. This is possible through temperature differences between electrodes and the use of appropriate redox couples, which allow an electrical current to be generated.
This technology could also be applied to wearable technologies, where body heat could be exploited to run smart devices, or implantable medical devices.
